Futsal with a Scorer's Table and Team Fouls
4-on-4 futsal games with a student referee and a scorer's table (timer and scorekeeper) tracking team fouls: from the fourth on, each foul gives the opponent a free kick with no wall. Students practice clean defense and running the table.
How to play
- Explain the adapted rule: 3 team fouls per half; from the fourth on, a direct free kick with no wall from 8 m (26 ft) (3 min).
- Make groups of 13: two teams of 4 plus a goalkeeper, a referee, a timer and a scorekeeper. Set the table on the sideline at half court.
- The scorekeeper logs each foul with the player's number and holds up fingers for the team total; the timer stops the clock on fouls and goals.
- Play two 5-minute halves with a 1-minute break, when team fouls reset to zero (11 min).
- Rotate: the table crew and referee play and three new players take over (11 min).
- Wrap-up: the table reports how many fouls and free kicks there were (1 min).
Rules
- Only the referee whistles; the table alerts them with a raised hand on the fourth foul.
- Sliding on the floor is always a foul.
- On a no-wall free kick, everyone except the keeper lines up behind the ball.
- Arguing with the table or referee adds a team foul.
Variations
Easier
The no-wall free kick starts at the sixth foul, from 10 m (33 ft).
Standard
No-wall free kick from the fourth team foul.
Harder
Each team gets one 30-second timeout, requested from and logged by the table.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: work the table permanently or play keeper with an enlarged goal area.
- Deaf or hard of hearing: the table shows team fouls with large number cards.
- Shyness: start as timer, a role that needs no talking.
Learning goals
- Defend with control to avoid needless fouls.
- Keep accurate time and foul counts at the table.
- Work as referee and table crew to run a game.

Teacher tip
Explain that the real rule is stricter and has been adapted so free kicks happen in class. Give the scorekeeper a worksheet with foul boxes for each half.
