Forearm-Pass Cleanup to the Cart
Putting the equipment away becomes one last calm challenge: balls get to the cart with forearm self-passes and a final pass. It brings the class down while still practicing ball control.
How to play
- On the signal, everyone stops play, holds a ball, and lines up loosely 10 m from the cart (1 min).
- Each student walks slowly to the cart, bumping soft, low self-passes (1 min).
- From 2 m away, a final forearm pass into the cart. If it misses, pick it up, go back to the mark, and calmly try again (2 min).
- Last balls: a keeper by the cart catches them while pairs set them in with fingertips; the class counts how many go in on the first try (2 min).
Rules
- Walk, never run, to the cart.
- Keep self-passes low, below head height.
- Wait your turn at the 2 m mark without pushing.
- When you're done, sit down by the teacher.
Variations
Easier
Walk carrying the ball; only the final pass is a bump.
Standard
Self-passes to the cart and a final pass.
Harder
Self-passes alternating sets and bumps, and the final pass from 3 m.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: makes the final pass from their spot while a classmate brings them the ball.
- Tired or sore students: carry balls by hand and act as the cart keeper.
- Students with visual impairments: the keeper taps the cart to guide the final pass.
Learning goals
- Lower intensity at the end of the lesson.
- Control the ball at low height while moving.
- Take responsibility for the equipment in an orderly way.
Equipment for a class of 25
- volleyballs: 15
- ball carts: 1
Teacher tip
If you don't have a cart, a large box or a handball goal tipped over works. Cleanup goes faster and no balls end up rolling around the gym.
