Floor-Level Tag: Move Like a Sitting Volleyball Player
A tag game where everyone moves seated, using hands and seat, just like in sitting volleyball. It fires up arms, core and hips and prepares the movement patterns of this Paralympic sport.

How to play
- Demo: scoot forward, backward and sideways, pushing with hands and heels (2 min).
- Short seated races between two cones in all four directions (2 min).
- Tag in a small square with 4 taggers in pinnies; whoever gets tagged takes the pinnie and becomes a tagger (3 min).
- Rescue version: tagged players raise a hand and are freed when a teammate gives them a high five (2 min).
- Check-in: which body part got the most tired? (1 min).
Rules
- Your seat stays on the floor at all times; standing up doesn't count.
- Tag with a hand on the shoulder or back, no pushing.
- Small area with no benches or walls nearby.
- Nobody is out: pinnies just change hands.
Variations
Easier
Move only forward and in a bigger area.
Standard
Four directions and four taggers.
Harder
Taggers may only move backward or sideways.
Adaptations
- Students who use wheelchairs: join on the floor if they can transfer, or from their chair in an outer lane of the square where tags also count.
- Sore wrists: lean on fists or forearms.
- Students uncomfortable with contact: tag with a short pool noodle.
Learning goals
- Improve mobility in a seated position.
- Warm up the arms and core.
- Experience how sitting volleyball players move.
Equipment for a class of 25
- pinnies: 4
- cones: 8
Teacher tip
Concrete scrapes pants and hands, so the gym or thin mats are better. Mention that in sitting volleyball lifting your seat while playing the ball is a fault; it's a great hook.
