Everybody Touches Team Handball
A 4-on-4 plus goalie mini team handball game in which a goal only counts if every court player touched the ball during that possession. It gets the whole class involved and rewards passing to the teammate who has touched it least.
How to play
- Set up two 20 x 15 m courts with small goals and a 4 m cone area. Make 5 teams of 5 in pinnies; one team referees (2 min).
- Each team plays 4 court players and a goalie. Before a shot, the ball must go through all four court players, and the team counts the touches out loud.
- Goal after everyone touched: 1 point; if the scorer had not scored yet, 2 points. Goal without all touches: no goal, and the other goalie restarts.
- On an interception, the new offense starts its own count from zero. One dribble per player is allowed. Every 4 minutes switch goalies and bring in the refereeing team; play 16 minutes.
- Wrap-up (2 min): ask who scored for the first time and what their teammates did to help.
Rules
- No taking the ball out of hands: intercept only in the air or on the dribble.
- The area belongs to the goalie, and nobody shoots at the goalie's head.
- The refereeing team decides whether everyone touched it; when in doubt, replay.
Variations
Easier
Only three of the four must touch it, and defenders stay an arm's length off.
Standard
All four touch before a shot, and each student's first goal counts double.
Harder
Also, the last pass must be a bounce pass, or play with no dribbling.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: nobody may guard them closer than one meter, so they can receive and pass calmly.
- Shy students: their team passes to them first on every possession.
- Advanced students: cannot shoot until another teammate has scored and act as the playmaker.
Learning goals
- Pass to every teammate before finishing.
- Look for the player who has been least involved.
- Value every team member's contribution.
Equipment for a class of 25
- foam balls: 4
- pinnies: 25
- cones: 16
- small goals: 4
Teacher tip
Teams will miscount at first, so name a touch-counting captain on each team. Celebrate every first goal with the whole class; it motivates more than the score.
