Empty the Trash: Review, Learn, Delete
At the end of a lesson with filming, each group reviews its videos, writes down one takeaway and deletes everything in front of the group. It ends class calmly and turns privacy into a habit.
How to play
- Gentle standing stretches while the group watches its videos from the lesson, without long pauses (2 min).
- Each student picks the moment in their video that best shows their progress, while stretching calves and shoulders (1 min).
- Each student says one sentence about what they learned about their technique, and the group's writer logs it on the sheet (2 min).
- Delete every video and empty the Recently Deleted folder; another group member double-checks and then the teacher (2 min).
Rules
- Each person decides what's said about their own video; nobody comments on someone else's without permission.
- No screenshots, and nothing is sent to other devices.
- The tablet isn't returned until the gallery is empty.
- Takeaways are saved in writing, not as images.
Variations
Easier
The teacher walks each group through deleting step by step.
Standard
The group deletes on its own and another student checks.
Harder
Besides the takeaway, each student writes what they want to film next lesson and why.
Adaptations
- Students with visual impairments: a partner describes the video and confirms it's deleted.
- Students who struggle with writing: say the sentence or record it as audio, which is transcribed and then deleted.
- Students who didn't consent to being filmed: share a takeaway based on what they felt while practicing.
Learning goals
- Cool down with a calm task.
- Draw one concrete lesson from their own practice.
- Build the habit of deleting images they no longer need.
Equipment for a class of 25
- tablets: 7
- log sheets: 7
Teacher tip
Check the Recently Deleted folder too: many devices keep videos there for weeks. If your school has a secure place to store video, use it only when you have consent.
