Dress for the Weather Relay

In a relay, each team must dress a teammate in the right clothes for exercising, based on a weather card: hot and sunny, cold, rainy or windy. It builds speed and endurance while students learn to protect themselves and practice good hygiene in physical activity.

How to play

  1. Place 4 hoops in the middle with mixed clothing: sweatshirts, rain jackets, scarves, gloves, T-shirts, sunglasses, caps, empty water bottles and towels, plus a few useless items (flip-flops, a long dress coat).
  2. Make 5 teams of 5 behind a cone 15 m (50 ft) from the hoops. Each team chooses an "athlete" who stays by the cone (2 min).
  3. The teacher draws a weather card ("cold and windy"). On the signal, the first player grabs one item and puts it on the athlete over their clothes.
  4. The next player goes. When the athlete is ready, the team sits and raises a hand; a correct outfit earns a point.
  5. Teams relay the clothes back and a new card is drawn, with a new athlete (5 rounds of 3 min).
  6. To finish, each team says what to do after PE class: drink water, dry off sweat and change T-shirts.

Variations

Easier

Use only two cards (hot or cold) and fewer items in the hoops.

Standard

Four weather types and five rounds with a different athlete.

Harder

Cards combine weather and sport (for example, "running in the summer sun") and teams must add the hygiene items needed.

Teacher tip

Use washed lost-and-found items. Athletes may turn down any item.
