Digital Inventory: Collect, Count and Check It Off
Each group takes charge of one type of equipment: they collect it at a walk, count it, check its condition and log it on an inventory sheet on the tablet. It brings heart rates down with a useful, responsible task.
How to play
- Assign roles: each group gets one type of equipment and the number that came out of the storage room (1 min).
- Collect it at a walk, no running, counting quietly in pairs (3 min).
- Check condition: anything broken or flat goes into a labeled box (2 min).
- Log it on the tablet sheet and compare with the starting count; if something's missing, everyone looks for it (2 min).
Rules
- Walk at all times.
- Equipment goes in the cart or in bags, never thrown.
- One person per group types on the tablet while another reads out the counts.
- Nobody leaves the class area to look for equipment without telling the teacher.
Variations
Easier
A paper inventory sheet with checkboxes.
Standard
A tablet sheet with starting count, ending count and damaged items.
Harder
The group works out which equipment goes missing most over the term and suggests a fix.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: handles the tablet log and the final count.
- Students with visual impairments: count small items by touch as they're handed over.
- Students with attention difficulties: get one clear task, such as counting the cones.
Learning goals
- Cool down with a calm task.
- Take care of shared equipment.
- Record simple data in an organized way.
Equipment for a class of 25
- tablets: 4
- inventory sheets: 4
Teacher tip
A shared school spreadsheet or a paper template works just as well. This way you spot broken equipment right away instead of at the start of the next class.
