Diamond Clean-Up: One Rule for Every Piece

A cool-down where students collect the bat-and-field gear and must say a rule or safety tip to put each piece away. The pace drops while they review what they learned.

How to play

  1. The gear is spread around the field; students walk in pairs to one piece (1 min).
  2. To drop it in the bin, the pair tells the bin keeper a related rule: a bat earns a safety rule; a base, a force-out or safe rule; a ball, a pitching rule (4 min).
  3. Repeated rules don't count; if a pair gets stuck, another pair can help (2 min).
  4. Closing circle: the three most important rules of the day, chosen by a show of hands (1 min).

Rules

Variations

Easier

Any rule counts, even repeats.

Standard

A new rule linked to the piece.

Harder

The pair also has to explain why the rule exists.

Adaptations

Learning goals

Equipment for a class of 25

Teacher tip

Put the bins far apart so lines don't form. Write down the rules nobody remembers: those are the ones to reinforce next class.
