Design-a-Circuit Group Project
In groups, students design a strength or endurance station with its exercise, form cues, and easier and harder versions, then lead it for the whole class as part of a shared circuit. They learn to plan healthy training and coach their peers.
How to play
- Make 6 groups of 4. Each group gets a worksheet with its assignment: choose an exercise for a given body area (legs, arms, core, back, cardio, or mobility) (2 min).
- Groups fill out the worksheet: exercise name, three form cues, one common mistake, easier and harder versions, and equipment needed (8 min).
- Each group tests its station and tweaks the instructions until all four students understand it the same way (3 min).
- Set up the 6 stations. Each group leaves one student as station leader and the rest rotate: 45 seconds of work and 30 seconds to switch (8 min).
- Switch leaders and run a second rotation so everyone leads at least once (taking turns, 6 min).
- Wrap-up: each group gets quick feedback from another group on how clear its station was, then hands its worksheet to the teacher (3 min).
Rules
- Every exercise must have an easy, safe version for anyone.
- Station leaders give respectful, specific coaching cues.
- No exercises that risk impact on the neck or back.
- Each group puts away the equipment for the station it designed.
Variations
Easier
The teacher provides a list of exercises to choose from.
Standard
Each group freely designs one exercise for its body area.
Harder
Each group designs two complementary stations and justifies their order in the circuit.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the group builds a seated version into its station that this student tests and approves.
- Shy students: lead alongside a groupmate or by showing the worksheet instead of talking.
- Lower fitness level: always pick the easier version each group designed during the rotation.
Learning goals
- Design safe fitness exercises adapted to different levels.
- Coach classmates by explaining technique clearly.
- Organize a circuit balanced across body areas.
Equipment for a class of 25
- worksheets: 6
- pens: 6
- yoga mats: 12
- resistance bands: 8
- cones: 12
- stopwatch: 1
Teacher tip
Review the worksheets before stations go up: that's the moment to fix unsafe exercises. Save the best designs as an exercise bank for future classes.

1v1 Ball Volley Matches
1v1 ball volley: singles games on a small court with a low net, hitting the ball over the net and allowing one bounce.

Small-court 4-on-4 games where each team has a setter at the net and builds the pass-set-hit sequence toward the outside hitter.

Teams of four learn to pass the baton without looking inside an exchange zone marked with cones, with the receiver taking off at speed so no time is lost.
