How to play
- Joint mobility and an easy jog around the field (2 min).
- Two facing lines one meter from the center line, deer and foxes, each with a safe zone 10 m behind them (1 min).
- Rounds: true statement, deer chase foxes to their safe zone; false, the other way around. Each tag scores a point for the chasing team (5 min).
- Final round with statements made up by students, and a quick class comment after each chase (2 min).
Rules
- Tag with a hand on the back or shoulder, no pushing.
- Slow down in the safe zone before the end of the field.
- Tagged students stay on their team; only the point counts.
- If you run the wrong way, stop and walk back.
Variations
Easier
Read the statement a little before giving the go signal.
Standard
Statement and immediate go.
Harder
Lines start sitting or facing away from the center line.
Adaptations
- Deaf students: the teacher holds up a T or F card after each statement.
- Limited mobility: decides whether the statement is true or false and gives the go signal with a whistle or gesture.
- Students nervous about running: start closer to their safe zone.
Learning goals
- React quickly to a decision.
- Learn basic rules for respecting the outdoors.
- Raise intensity gradually.
Equipment for a class of 25
- cones: 12
Teacher tip
Good statements: 'Leave a gate the way you found it' (T), 'Fruit peels are fine to toss because they're natural' (F), 'Tell someone at home your route' (T). Common mistake: vague statements; keep them clear-cut.
