Decide and Collect: One First Aid Call per Cone
To clean up, each pair walks to a cone with a short sports injury or emergency case card underneath and only takes it if they answer correctly. It brings the class down at walking pace while reviewing quick first aid decisions.

How to play
- The teacher or two students slip a card under each cone used in class (cramp, nosebleed, head knock with dizziness, sprain, blister, classmate collapsing) (1 min).
- Walking in pairs, students lift a cone, read the case and quietly say the first action; if they're sure, they carry the cone to the drop-off point (4 min).
- Tricky cards are left face up next to their cone and solved together in a circle (2 min).
- Last cone: picked up by whoever can say the emergency number and the school's full name and address (1 min).
Rules
- Walk only; no racing for cones.
- Answer in one sentence: the first action, not the whole protocol.
- If unsure, leave the card for the group, no penalty.
- Stack cones by color at the drop-off point.
Variations
Easier
Cards with three answer choices.
Standard
Open one-sentence answers.
Harder
Each pair also says what they would NOT do.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: stay at the drop-off point as the judge, checking answers against the key.
- Visually impaired students: their partner reads the card aloud.
- Deaf or hard-of-hearing students: cards are written and the answer can be written on the back.
Learning goals
- Lower arousal gradually while cleaning up.
- Review basic first aid decisions.
- Help keep equipment organized and cared for.
Equipment for a class of 25
- cones: 20
- case cards: 20
Teacher tip
Laminate the cards once and they'll last all year. With the head knock, students often say "let them play if they feel OK": make it clear that with symptoms, they don't return that day.
