Dance Critique: Watch and Respond in Three Sentences
A reflective cool-down: two clips recorded during the lesson are projected and each student writes a three-sentence critique (describe, highlight, suggest). Students share in pairs while doing gentle stretches.
How to play
- Project two one-minute recordings of groups that have given permission (3 min).
- Each student fills in the worksheet with three sentences: describe what they see, highlight what works and suggest one specific improvement (3 min).
- In pairs, students share their critiques while doing gentle neck, shoulder and calf stretches (3 min).
- The teacher collects two or three ideas out loud to close the lesson (1 min).
Rules
- Only project videos of groups that have given permission, and delete them afterward.
- Critiques are about the work, never about people's appearance.
- Every suggestion must be specific and doable.
Variations
Easier
Only two sentences: describe and highlight.
Standard
Three sentences (describe, highlight, suggest) and sharing in pairs.
Harder
The critique must use at least two technical terms (canon, level, unison, shot, dynamics).
Adaptations
- Visual impairment: the partner describes the video and the student gives the critique orally.
- Hearing impairment: show the videos with captions or describe the music in writing.
- Writing difficulties: the student may record an audio critique instead of writing it.
Learning goals
- Analyze an artistic production using specific vocabulary.
- Give constructive feedback respectfully.
- Bring arousal levels down at the end of the lesson.
Equipment for a class of 25
- tablets or phones: 1
- projector: 1
- worksheets: 28
Teacher tip
Collect the worksheets: they are useful evidence for assessing the artistic expression criterion. Choose clips from different groups each lesson.
