Cue Circle: One Pass, One Tip
In small circles, the ball moves with slow, gentle contacts and whoever catches it says one technique cue from the lesson. It reviews the session and lets everyone share what they learned.
How to play
- Circles of seven or eight with a soft ball. Pass it around with gentle, high sets, no rush (2 min).
- Cue round: whoever receives catches the ball, says one technique cue from today ("thumbs toward your eyes," "still platform"), and passes it on; no repeating someone else's cue (2 min).
- Challenge round: whoever catches says what was hardest today, and the person they pass to gives them a short tip (3 min).
- Wrap-up: each circle picks its best cue and shares it out loud with the whole class (1 min).
Rules
- Contacts are gentle; if the ball drops, pick it up calmly.
- Listen to the speaker without interrupting.
- You may say "pass" once if you don't want to talk.
- Tips are about technique, never about the person.
Variations
Easier
Hand the ball around without a set and say just one keyword.
Standard
Sets and full cues.
Harder
Alternating sets and bumps without catching: say the cue while the ball is in the air.
Adaptations
- Students who are deaf or hard of hearing: may show the cue with a gesture or write it on a mini whiteboard.
- Shy students: can choose when to speak or use a list of cues on the floor for help.
- Limited mobility: joins seated and receives the ball by hand.
Learning goals
- Recall the lesson's technique cues.
- Share personal challenges without fear.
- Give classmates respectful tips.
Equipment for a class of 25
- soft volleyballs: 4
Teacher tip
Listen to the cues students say: they're a quick check of what stuck. If a circle stalls, step in and give the first example.
