Court Lines: Every Color, a Different Move
Students may only move along the painted court lines, and each color calls for a different move. It warms up with varied footwork and spatial awareness.

How to play
- Walk freely, stepping only on the court lines (2 min).
- Assign a move to each color: white is a jog, blue is side shuffles, red or yellow is high knees. Change lines at intersections (3 min).
- If two people meet head-on on the same line, they high-five and both switch lines (2 min).
- The teacher calls a color: everyone goes to a line of that color and holds a five-second single-leg balance (2 min).
- Jog the court perimeter to finish (1 min).
Rules
- Stay on the lines; if you step off, walk back to the nearest one.
- At intersections, give way to whoever is already on the line.
- Controlled speed: no passing people on the same line.
Variations
Easier
Two colors only, walking.
Standard
Three colors with their moves.
Harder
Each color also has a different arm movement.
Adaptations
- Students with visual impairments: cones mark the intersections on their route and a partner guide goes with them.
- Wheelchair users: follow the wider lines, with 'moves' as different speeds.
- Color-blind students: the teacher names lines by position ('the key line,' 'the center line'), not only by color.
Learning goals
- Warm up with varied footwork.
- Improve coordination and balance.
- Find your way around the court.
Equipment for a class of 25
- colored cones: 12
Teacher tip
If the court has no colored lines, mark three routes with colored cones or chalk. Students tend to rush along the lines and bump at intersections: always start by walking.
