How to play
- Teams of five. Each team has a square with a hoop in the middle and a shuttle on a cone in each corner (1 min).
- The first runner starts from the hoop, moves to a corner with side steps or crossover steps, picks up the shuttle in a lunge and drops it in the hoop (2 min).
- Second round: return the shuttles to the corners one per trip, tagging hands to relay (2 min).
- Final round in a set order: front right, back left, front left, back right (2 min).
- Easy walk and shake out the legs (1 min).
Rules
- Carry only one shuttle per trip.
- Move to the back corners sideways or with a crossover step, never sprinting backward.
- The winning team is the one that finishes with everyone doing the last lap together, not the fastest.
Variations
Easier
3 x 3 m square, any footwork.
Standard
4 x 4 m square with badminton footwork.
Harder
Pick up the shuttle with the racket without touching it by hand.
Adaptations
- Low vision: bright cones and a buddy who runs the first lap alongside.
- Limited mobility: shuttles on tall cones so no bending is needed.
- Hesitant students: they can set the shuttles and start each runner before taking a turn.
Learning goals
- Warm up with sport-specific movement.
- Make the lunge and return to center automatic.
- Cooperate in the relay by cheering on the whole team.
Equipment for a class of 25
- shuttlecocks: 24
- cones: 30
- hoops: 6
Teacher tip
Use old or broken shuttles here since nobody hits them. Watch that the front foot in the lunge is the racket-side foot.
