Confidence Line: Place Yourself by How Each Skill Feels
Reflection on the move: students walk to a spot on a floor line based on how confident they feel about each skill from the lesson. It shows fear is normal and helps plan the next lesson.

How to play
- Tape a long line on the floor: one end is 'it freezes me' and the other 'I do it calmly' (1 min).
- The teacher holds up a card (cartwheel, handstand, backward roll, vault…) and everyone walks silently to their spot (3 min).
- After two or three cards, anyone who wants shares what would help them move one step up: a spotter, a thicker mat, more reps (2 min).
- Everyone takes the card of the skill they most want to improve and hands it in with their name on the way out (1 min).
Rules
- Nobody comments on where someone else stands.
- Speaking is optional.
- Walk slowly and don't push when repositioning.
- What's shared in the circle stays in class.
Variations
Easier
Two skills only and no sharing round.
Standard
Three skills and optional sharing.
Harder
Place yourself twice: where you were at the start of the unit and where you are today.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: show your position by moving a cone along a line on a table.
- Blind or low-vision students: the line is a rope on the floor and the teacher reads the cards aloud.
- Social anxiety: mark your position on paper and hand it straight to the teacher.
Learning goals
- Recognize your own confidence level for each skill.
- Normalize fear in learning acrobatics.
- Identify what support you need to progress.
Equipment for a class of 25
- masking tape: 1
- skill cards: 6
Teacher tip
Take a mental snapshot of the line: it tells you which station to reinforce next time. The usual problem is clustering with friends: have them walk with eyes closed and open them once placed.
