Class Challenge: 100 Baskets
Cooperative challenge for the whole class: all groups at all baskets must score a combined 100 points in 6 minutes. After a first try, each group plans an improvement and the class tries again. Students practice shooting, shared goals and teamwork.
How to play
- Make 6 groups of 4 to 5, one per basket, with 2 balls; mark a close zone (1 point) and a far zone (2 points) with poly spots.
- Explain the challenge: the whole class must reach 100 points in 6 minutes; no group wins alone.
- First try (6 min): shoot in turns, get your own rebound and pass to the next shooter; one scorekeeper per group updates the whiteboard every 2 minutes.
- Break (2 min): each group picks one improvement, such as shooting from its best zone or passing faster.
- Second try (5 min) with the changes and a new scorekeeper.
- Compare both totals on the whiteboard and have each group name the decision that helped most.
Rules
- No ball hogs: always pass to the next shooter.
- Shots only count from inside the zone, without stepping on the line.
- Walk to the whiteboard around the outside of the courts.
Variations
Easier
Goal of 60 points, every basket worth 1, and a lowered hoop available.
Standard
Goal of 100 points in 6 minutes with 1- and 2-point zones.
Harder
Baskets only count after a pass and a dribble, and the goal rises to 130.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: their baskets count double from the close zone and a partner returns the ball.
- Autism: the student may keep score in the first try and shoot in the second, with a clear turn order.
- Lower skill: the student shoots a lighter ball from the close zone.
Learning goals
- Contribute shooting points to a shared class goal.
- Plan a group strategy and check whether it works.
- Value every classmate's contribution equally.
Equipment for a class of 25

- basketball hoops: 6

Teacher tip
Set the goal so it is hard but doable, and raise it if they beat it easily. Announce the running total out loud to keep energy high.
