Celebrate the Drop: Juggling With a Reset Move
Increasingly tricky throw-and-catch challenges where every drop is met with a reset move the pair invents. It activates coordination and turns mistakes into a normal part of learning.

How to play
- In pairs, invent a two-second reset move: for example, a clap, a spin and “Again!” (1 min).
- Toss and catch a beanbag with one hand, then switch hands; after each drop, do the reset move and keep going (2 min).
- Two objects at once between partners, side by side and then crossing (2 min).
- Solo challenge: juggle two balls or toss a ball and clap; count celebrated drops, not catches (3 min).
- Final round with an easy jog, handing your object to another pair and explaining your reset move (2 min).
Rules
- No swearing or beating yourself up after a drop: only the reset move counts.
- Pick up dropped objects bending at the knees with a straight back.
- Pairs stay six feet away from the next pair.
- No one comments on others' mistakes except to cheer them on.
Variations
Easier
Beanbags only, since they don't roll, and low tosses.
Standard
Beanbags and balls with two-object challenges.
Harder
Juggle three objects, or pass a ball between partners while each dribbles another.
Adaptations
- Students with low vision: brightly colored balls or balls with a bell, tossed to the hand that calls out.
- Wheelchair users: challenges in the lap or using a tray, and the partner collects objects that roll away.
- Perfectionist students: their goal is to reach five celebrated drops without getting angry.
Learning goals
- Activate hand-eye coordination.
- Accept mistakes as part of learning.
- Build a short routine for getting back on task after failing.
Equipment for a class of 25
- tennis balls: 30
- beanbags: 30
Teacher tip
Do your own reset move when you drop something in the demo; nothing convinces them more. If you're short on beanbags, socks rolled around a handful of rice work.
