Body Map Check-In: Muscle or Joint?
After the strength session, each student marks on a body outline where they felt the work and separates muscle fatigue from joint discomfort. Students learn to listen to their bodies to prevent injury.
How to play
- Explain: a tired muscle is normal; a sharp pain in a joint is a signal to tell someone (2 min).
- Each student places green stickers where they felt muscle work and red ones for joint discomfort (2 min).
- In pairs, compare maps and link the green areas to the day's exercises (2 min).
- Gently stretch the two most marked green areas; anyone with red stickers talks privately with the teacher (2 min).
Rules
- The map is personal: no one comments on another's.
- A red sticker isn't a failure; it's useful information.
- Final stretches are gentle.
- Outlines are handed to the teacher at the end.
Variations
Easier
Green stickers only and a teacher-led stretch.
Standard
Green and red stickers with partner discussion.
Harder
Add a yellow sticker for areas they didn't feel but should have worked.
Adaptations
- Students with visual impairments: a raised-line outline, or point on their own body while a partner marks.
- Students with fine motor difficulties: use a thick marker instead of stickers.
- Reserved students: share only in writing on their own sheet.
Learning goals
- Tell normal muscle fatigue from possible joint discomfort.
- Link exercises to muscle groups.
- Communicate body signals responsibly.
Equipment for a class of 25
- printed body outlines: 30
- colored stickers: 60
Teacher tip
Without stickers, two colors of markers work. Check the outlines afterward to spot repeated discomfort and adjust the next session. The classic mistake is marking red on anything tired: stress the difference.
