Beat the Song Team Circuit
Groups of five complete a five-cone warm-up circuit together as many times as they can during one song, then try to beat their own score during the second song. It builds a full warm-up, teamwork and a shared group pace.
How to play
- Set up 5 identical circuits of 5 cones, 20 feet apart. Each cone has a task: 10 high knees, 5 lunges per leg, side shuffle, 10 jumping jacks and jog back.
- Make groups of 5. Do a 1-minute easy practice lap to learn the tasks.
- First song (about 3 minutes): the group moves through the circuit together; no one moves to the next cone until the whole group finishes the task.
- When the song ends, each group reports its number of full laps. Spend 1 minute on mobility while the group plans how to improve.
- Second song of similar length: try to beat your score without skipping reps.
- Finish with 1 minute of walking while each group shares the strategy that worked.
Rules
- The group stays together: wait for and encourage slower teammates.
- Count reps out loud and complete every one.
- Safety: keep your chest up in lunges and don't let the back knee hit the ground.
- Groups compete only against their own score, not against each other.
Variations
Easier
Cut reps in half and shorten the distance between cones to 13 feet.
Standard
Five cones 20 feet apart with the listed tasks and two songs.
Harder
Make the third song faster and do one task as a partner mirror.
Adaptations
- Students with limited mobility do seated versions of each task, and the group adjusts its route to match.
- For students with autism, place a picture card of the task at each cone.
- Groups may agree that less-fit teammates do fewer reps.
Learning goals
- Warm up the body with a mix of leg work and travel.
- Cooperate to keep a shared group pace.
- Value the group's progress against its own score.
Equipment for a class of 25
- cones: 25
- music (speaker): 1
Teacher tip
Pick two songs of similar length and tell students, so the comparison is fair. Praise out loud the groups that wait for and encourage each other.
