How to play
- Hamstrings: heel on the ball, leg straight, slowly roll the ball forward while your partner counts to 20 seconds (2 min).
- Adductors: sideways, slide the ball out with the sole and hold (2 min).
- Quads: standing, hold your ankle while the other foot rests on the ball; partner offers a hand if needed (2 min).
- Final challenge: slow partner passing without putting the kicking foot down for 10 passes in a row (2 min).
Rules
- Stretch with no bouncing and no pain.
- The partner stays close in case someone loses balance.
- If the ball rolls too much, use the wall or a partner for support.
- Go as far as you can; no comparing.
Variations
Easier
Hold your partner's hand throughout the stretches.
Standard
Ball stretches plus the no-touch-down passing challenge.
Harder
Eyes closed on standing stretches, with the partner very close.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: seated stretches rolling the ball along the legs with the hands.
- Visual impairment: partner describes each position and touches the target area only with permission.
- Knee injury: skips the standing quad stretch and does it lying on the side.
Learning goals
- Stretch the muscles used in soccer.
- Keep balance using the ball as an unstable support.
- Support a partner safely.
Equipment for a class of 25
- soccer balls: 15
Teacher tip
Slightly deflated balls roll less and feel safer. Typical error: bouncing in the stretch; ask them to hold and count slowly.
