Analyst Cleanup: Every Piece of Gear Comes with a Stat
To put the gear away, each student walks one piece back to the cart and, when dropping it off, shares a specific stat or fact from the game they just played. The teacher writes them on the board and class ends with a tactical takeaway built by everyone.

How to play
- The teacher explains that every piece of gear is "paid for" with a stat: a number, a specific play or a decision that worked or didn't (1 min).
- Round one: each student walks one item back and shares their stat at drop-off; the teacher writes it on the board (2 min).
- Round two: no repeating a stat already given; anyone stuck can ask their team for help (2 min).
- With the full board in view, the group picks the most important tactical takeaway and one idea for next class (2 min).
Rules
- Walk, don't run, while carrying gear.
- Stats are about the team or plays, never criticism of a person.
- Carry balls in your hands; no dribbling or tossing them at the cart.
- Pinnies go back folded into their colored bin.
Variations
Easier
A feeling is allowed instead of a stat.
Standard
One specific stat per item, no repeats.
Harder
Every stat needs a "because" explaining its cause.
Adaptations
- Students with limited mobility: receive gear at the cart and run the drop-off order.
- Deaf or hard-of-hearing students: write their stats directly on the board.
- Shy students: share their stat with a partner who says it out loud.
Learning goals
- Recall and put into words specific facts from the game.
- Build a team tactical takeaway from data.
- Help put the gear away in an orderly way.
Equipment for a class of 25
- cones: 20
- pinnies: 15
- basketballs: 4
- whiteboard: 1
- markers: 2
Teacher tip
Keep the cart or bins in one fixed spot so the route is always the same. The typical mistake is everyone crowding in at the end: send groups by pinnie color to stagger it.
