Alternative Sports Fair: Each Group Teaches One in Six Minutes
Five groups each set up a station for an alternative invasion or net sport and teach it to the rest of the class in six minutes, like sports instructors. Students practice organizing, explaining briefly and managing a group.
How to play
- Setup: each group gets a sport (datchball, colpbol, ringo, adapted sepak takraw or small-sided quadball) and sets up its station with the equipment from its box (5 min).
- Rehearsal: the group prepares a 60-second explanation and decides who explains, who referees and who keeps time in each round (3 min).
- Five 6-minute rotations: the host group explains, organizes and referees; the rest play, and at each station one visitor evaluates the explanation (30 min).
- Evaluation: each group reads its sheets and says what it would change if it had to run this session at a summer camp or club (7 min).
Rules
- Each station must be safe: no head-high throws and no contact.
- Walk between stations on the teacher's whistle.
- Explanations last one minute max: the rest is learned by playing.
- Hosts rotate within each station so everyone explains at least once.
Variations
Easier
Four 7-minute stations with the teacher helping the explanations.
Standard
Five 6-minute stations with 60-second explanations.
Harder
Each group must build in an adaptation for a student with a disability and explain it.
Adaptations
- Wheelchair users can be their station's main spokesperson and adapt the game from their own experience.
- Deaf or hard-of-hearing students: each station prepares a sheet with drawings of the rules.
- Students anxious about public speaking handle setup, timing and refereeing at their station.
Learning goals
- Organize and lead a sports activity for others.
- Explain rules briefly and clearly.
- Explore careers such as sports instructor or coach.

Teacher tip
Assign the sports the class before so groups arrive with their explanation planned. Keep each station's equipment in a labeled box. Typical mistake: three-minute explanations; cut them off at 60 seconds and let them play.
