Activity Finder Near Home: Clubs, Routes and Schedules
After a few minutes of gentle mobility, students research in pairs the real physical activity options near home: city rec centers, clubs, parks with calisthenics areas, walking or cycling routes. Each pair picks one practical option and presents it on a card shared with the class.
How to play
- Gentle standing mobility next to the desk: shoulders, hips and ankles (2 min).
- In pairs, search the city website, club sites or maps for at least three activity options within a 20-minute walk or bike ride of one partner's home (3 min).
- Fill in the card for the most practical option: activity, place, days and times, cost, how to get there actively and who they could go with (3 min).
- Three pairs present their option in 30 seconds and the others note any that interest them (2 min).
Rules
- Use only official websites or recognized organizations; never enter personal data in forms.
- Don't share home addresses: the neighborhood or area is enough.
- Options must be safe and age-appropriate.
- Devices are used only for the search.
Variations
Easier
The teacher prepares a list of city links to choose from.
Standard
Open search for three options and a card for the most practical one.
Harder
The class builds a shared map of every option near the school, including free and outdoor ones.
Adaptations
- Students with disabilities: search specifically for adapted or inclusive sports and check accessibility.
- Visual impairment: use a screen reader while the partner fills in the card.
- Low-income families: require at least one free option.
Learning goals
- Learn about physical activity resources in their own area.
- Plan physical activity outside school independently.
- Value active travel and the use of urban spaces for exercise.
Equipment for a class of 25
- tablets or phones: 15
- cards: 15
Teacher tip
Keep it ready for the end of a term or a rainy day. Store the cards in a shared folder: it is a very useful resource for students who drop out of club sports.
