Wizard School Spells Movement Story
First day at wizard school: the teacher, as headmaster, casts spells that change how students move (statue, slow motion, lightning, frog, giant). It builds attention, body control and quick changes of pace.
How to play
- Everyone spreads out. Each apprentice gets an imaginary wand and draws three circles in the air with each arm (30 sec).
- Teach the spells with a gesture: "Statue" (freeze), "Slow motion" (walk very slowly), "Lightning" (fast jog), "Frog" (squat jumps) and "Giant" (walk tall on tiptoes) (1 min).
- School tour: walk while the teacher describes the visit (library, dining hall, tower), casting a new spell every 10 seconds (2 min).
- Double spell: the teacher combines two, like "Giant and slow motion," and students do both at once (1 min).
- Counterspell: students take turns casting a spell on the whole class for 10 seconds (1 min 30 sec).
- End of class: the teacher says "Magic's over" and everyone shakes out their arms and breathes deeply (1 min).
Rules
- On "Statue," nobody moves, not even to talk.
- Wands are imaginary: never point at anyone's face.
- On "Lightning," dodge others and don't touch anyone.
- Student spells must be safe for everyone.
Variations
Easier
Use only three spells: statue, lightning and slow motion.
Standard
Use all five spells on the tour, plus double spells.
Harder
The teacher whispers the spell instead of saying it out loud to demand sharper attention.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: each spell has an arms-and-trunk version (frog: pat the knees; giant: arms overhead).
- Hearing impairment: link each spell to a clear, visible wand gesture.
- Fitness level: on "Lightning," tired students can jog easy.
Learning goals
- Link words and gestures to ways of moving.
- Control the body during sudden changes of pace.
- Suggest movement cues for the group.
Teacher tip
Keep the pace unpredictable so they stay alert. During counterspells, help hesitant students by offering a choice of two spells.
