Watching the Bubbles Fall
Lying on their backs, the children track falling bubbles with their eyes and send them off with a soft breath. It builds visual attention, stillness, and calm.
How to play
- We lie on our backs in a circle with our heads toward the middle (1 min).
- The teacher blows bubbles above us and we follow them with only our eyes, bodies still (2 min).
- We blow very softly upward so a falling bubble floats away (1 min).
- We close our eyes and the teacher counts slowly while we breathe (1 min).
- We sit up slowly and say what color our favorite bubble was (1 min).
Rules
- My body is still like a rug.
- I follow the bubble with just my eyes.
- I blow softly, no spitting.
- If a bubble lands on me, I giggle quietly.
Variations
Easier
For 3-year-olds, they sit instead of lying down and just watch.
Standard
For 4-year-olds, they lie down, watch, and blow softly.
Harder
For 5-year-olds, they silently count how many bubbles pass over them and share at the end.
Adaptations
- Motor-impaired: joins reclining in the wheelchair or on a cushion.
- Visual impairment: the teacher blows close so they feel bubbles on the skin and describes what happens.
- Autism: may stay seated holding a calming object.
Learning goals
- Track an object with the eyes.
- Keep the body still and relaxed.
- Enjoy a calm moment.
Equipment for a class of 25

Teacher tip
Blow from the foot of the circle, never right above faces, so no soap falls in eyes. Keep a cloth handy in case someone gets a wet face.
