Video Check Warm-Up Stations
In groups of three, students film each other on a tablet doing three key warm-up moves (squat, lunge, and jump landing) and compare the slow-motion video to a technique checklist. It combines activation, injury prevention, and responsible use of technology.
How to play
- Groups of three with one tablet and a cone marking the filming spot, about 10 feet to the side. Minutes 0-3: teacher-led jog and general mobility.
- Minutes 3-5: squat station. One student does 5 reps, one films from the front, and the third reads the checklist out loud: knees over toes, heels down, neutral back.
- Minutes 5-7: lunge station, filmed from the side; check that the front knee does not shoot far past the toes and the trunk stays upright.
- Minutes 7-9: jump and landing station, filmed from the front; look for a quiet landing with knees in line.
- Minutes 9-12: each group reviews the slow-motion clips, each student picks one priority fix, and repeats the exercise 5 times applying it.
Rules
- Only film classmates who give permission, and delete all videos at the end of class.
- Tablets always stay on the cone, never on the floor of the jumping area.
- Comments are about technique, never about anyone's body.
Variations
Easier
Film only the squat and lunge, with a two-point checklist.
Standard
Film all three exercises and review them with the full checklist.
Harder
Use a drawing app over the video to mark knee and hip angles and compare before and after.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: film upper-body movements such as a push or a throw from the wheelchair.
- Shyness: the student can be filmed without the group watching and review the clip only with the teacher.
- Low fitness: fewer reps, with jumps replaced by calf raises.
Learning goals
- Analyze your own technique with a digital device.
- Identify errors that increase injury risk in basic exercises.
- Use classmates' images respectfully and responsibly.
Equipment for a class of 25
- tablets: 8
- cones: 8
Teacher tip
Have tablets in airplane mode with slow motion set up before heading outside. If you only have a few, run two filming rounds while the rest of the class keeps doing mobility.
