Triangle Passes with Lateral Movement
Groups of 3 or 4 pass the ball around a cone triangle and, after each pass, side-shuffle to the next corner. Students work on passing, catching, coordination and lateral movement as a ball-handling warm-up.
How to play
- Form 7 groups of 3 or 4 and set up a cone triangle with sides of about 5 meters (16 feet) for each (1 min).
- One player at each corner (the fourth waits behind one); chest pass to the next corner clockwise (1 min).
- After passing, each player side-shuffles after the ball to the corner they passed to (2 min).
- On the whistle, switch the direction of passes and movement (1.5 min).
- Add a second ball at the opposite corner so both move at once (1.5 min).
- Final 1-minute challenge: count how many passes in a row the group can make without dropping a ball (1 min).
Rules
- Accurate passes at chest height.
- Look at the receiver and call their name before passing.
- Move sideways without crossing your feet.
- Safety: with two balls, don't pass until the receiver's hands are free.
Variations
Easier
One ball, slow pace and sides of about 13 feet.
Standard
One ball with direction changes on the signal.
Harder
Two balls at once with bounce passes or one-hand passes.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student holds a fixed corner while the others rotate around them.
- Visual impairment: sound ball or high-contrast ball and bounce passes with the receiver's name called out.
- Skill level: a soft or larger ball and shorter sides for students who struggle to catch.
Learning goals
- Improve passing accuracy and catching.
- Coordinate passing with lateral movement.
- Warm up with the ball before the main activity.
Equipment for a class of 25
- balls: 14
- cones: 21
Teacher tip
The second ball usually causes chaos: give groups a few seconds to get organized. Match the type of pass to the main activity's sport (basketball, team handball, volleyball).

4v1 Warm-up Rondo
4v1 rondo in an 8×8-meter square: four players keep possession with passes along the ground while one player in the middle tries to win the ball. Students work on passing, directional first touch and quick decision-making.
5v2 Technical Warm-up Rondo
A 5v2 rondo (keep-away) to warm up with the ball: five players around the outside of a square keep possession while two in the middle try to win it. It builds passing, first touch and positioning, with gradual activation.
Activation Ball Relays
Team relays in which each runner completes a 12-meter course dribbling with the hand, dribbling with the feet or passing, depending on the round. It warms students up with sport-specific ball skills and encourages healthy team competition.
Activation Circuit (4 Stations, 30 s)
Activation circuit with four 30-second stations: hoop jumps, squats, cone zigzag and plank. It gets the whole body ready for the main activity by combining strength, coordination and agility at moderate intensity.
Activation with Agility Ladder
Agility ladder warm-up using four footwork patterns of increasing difficulty. Students work on coordination, foot speed and lower-body activation, always putting accuracy ahead of speed.
Activation with Basic Plyometric Exercises
An activation with basic, progressive plyometric exercises: ankle hops, vertical jumps, lateral jumps and switch lunges. It activates lower-body power and teaches students to land in a controlled, safe way.
