The Slow-Motion Class Photo
Children move very slowly into a whole-class photo in three rows (standing, kneeling and sitting) and hold still with calm breathing until the "click". It's a cool-down that practices stillness and self-control.
How to play
- Walk around the room in slow motion, as if floating (1 min).
- The photographer arranges us for the picture: one row standing in back, one kneeling in the middle and one sitting in front (2 min).
- Take a deep breath and hold still with a smile while the photographer counts to five: "click" (1 min).
- Repeat with other faces: serious photo, sleepy photo and a hug-your-neighbor photo (1 min).
- Sit down slowly in place and let the air out very slowly (1 min).
Rules
- I move in slow motion.
- In the photo I don't move or talk.
- I breathe slowly through my nose.
Variations
Easier
For 3-year-olds, two rows (standing and sitting) and the photo lasts only to three.
Standard
For 4-year-olds, three rows and the photo lasts to five.
Harder
For 5-year-olds, a child is the photographer and arranges the others with gestures, without talking.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the wheelchair goes at one end of the middle row, level with the kneeling kids.
- Visual impairment: the friend next to them gives a hand squeeze before the "click".
- Autism: the child can choose their spot and skip the hug photo.
Learning goals
- Move slowly and with control.
- Hold still for a few seconds.
- Relax with breathing at the end of the session.
Teacher tip
Plan ahead who goes in each row so the calm isn't lost while organizing. If you have a real camera, take a photo at the end: kids love seeing it on the classroom screen.
