The Mountaineer Rests at the Lodge
Lying on mats, kids are mountaineers who reach the lodge after climbing and relax each part of the body that worked hard: hands, arms and legs. It practices relaxation and body awareness.
How to play
- We walk slowly into the lodge and lie on our backs on a mat (1 min).
- We take off our pretend boots and wiggle our toes (1 min).
- Hands that held on so hard open up and go floppy like empty gloves (1 min).
- Arms and legs feel heavy like backpacks and sink into the mat (2 min).
- We breathe in the mountain air and sit up slowly when the teacher taps our shoulder (1 min).
Rules
- At the lodge, we talk only with our eyes.
- Each mountaineer on their own mat.
- I get up when the teacher taps me.
Variations
Easier
For 3-year-olds, just floppy hands and heavy legs, with the teacher guiding up close.
Standard

Harder

Adaptations

Teacher tip
Dim the lights if you can and speak more and more slowly. The usual mistake is dragging it out: for 3-year-olds, four minutes of stillness is plenty.
