The Growing Seed Story
The teacher narrates a short story in which each student is a seed sleeping underground that sprouts, grows into a tree, and goes back to rest. Slow movements build creative movement, gentle stretching, and calm at the end of class.
How to play
- Play calm music and have students spread out and curl into a little ball on the floor, kneeling with forehead near their knees: they're sleeping seeds (30 sec).
- Narrate: "The rain is coming..." You softly tap your fingers on the floor while the seeds take three deep breaths that puff up their backs (1 min).
- "The sun comes out and the seed sprouts": very slowly they reach out one arm, then the other, like the first shoots, and rise up onto their knees (90 sec).
- "The stem grows": they slowly stand up, reaching their arms high until they're a tall tree, and hold it for 3 breaths (90 sec).
- "A gentle breeze blows": the tree sways side to side without moving its feet and drops its leaves by gently shaking its fingers (1 min).
- "Fall arrives": the tree slowly turns back into a seed, lowering to the floor, and rests in silence for 1 minute until the music fades (90 sec).
Rules
- Every movement is in slow motion, following the teacher's voice.
- Each seed has its own space and doesn't touch other seeds.
- Listen to the story quietly; talking waits until the end.
- When lowering to the floor, put your hands down first so you don't drop hard.
Variations
Easier
Narrate just three moments (sleep, grow, sleep again) and model every movement where students can see you.
Standard
All five story scenes with soft music.
Harder
Each student chooses a plant and grows a different way (sunflower, willow, cactus) while keeping the slow pace of the story.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student acts out the seed seated, curling and stretching the trunk and arms.
- Visual impairment: describe each movement in detail and let the student feel your arms to understand the tree shape.
- Shy students: the student can do the story near you or with eyes closed so they don't feel watched.
Learning goals
- Use the body to act out the parts of a simple story.
- Move slowly and with control to calm down.
- Gently stretch the whole body.

Teacher tip
Your voice sets the pace for the class: leave long pauses between sentences. Over time, a student can narrate while you watch.

Students travel to the Moon as astronauts, where everything moves in slow motion because of low gravity, then return to Earth feeling heavy.
Back Drawing with Partner
In pairs, one student slowly draws a shape, letter or number on a partner's back with a finger, and the partner guesses it before roles switch.
Back-to-Back Ball Pass Stretch
Sitting back to back in pairs, students pass a foam ball with trunk twists, overhead and between the legs, always slowly and with steady breathing.
Ball Explorer Body Guess
