Slow-Motion Stretch Tag
A tag game where everyone, including the taggers, moves in slow motion; tagged students hold a stretch until a classmate frees them. It's a calm transition from the main activity to the end of class that builds self-control and stretching habits.
How to play
- Mark off an area of about 50 x 50 feet using the court lines; choose 3 taggers, each holding a scarf (1 min).
- On the signal, everyone moves in slow motion, lifting knees high and swinging arms slowly like astronauts; walking at normal speed is not allowed.
- Anyone tagged with the scarf freezes and holds the stretch the teacher names for that round (arms overhead, quad stretch, side bend) (2 min).
- To free a classmate, another student stands in front and does the same stretch with them for 5 seconds, counting quietly.
- Switch taggers and the stretch every 2 minutes; play 2 more rounds, each a little slower (3 min).
- Finish: the teacher says "Batteries are running out!" and everyone gradually slows down until they're stretched out on the ground (1 min).
Rules
- Everything is in slow motion: anyone who speeds up does a 5-second stretch before continuing.
- Tag with the scarf on the arms or back, never the face.
- Hold stretches without bouncing.
- You can't free the same classmate twice in a row.
Variations
Easier
Use only 2 taggers and keep the same stretch all game.
Standard
Use 3 taggers and change the stretch every round.
Harder
To free someone, mirror their stretch and also take three breaths together.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student moves slowly in a wheelchair and, if tagged, does the arm version of the stretch.
- Hearing impairment: show each new stretch with a sign or a teacher gesture.
- Very competitive students: make them taggers with the challenge of moving even slower than everyone else.
Learning goals
- Control the speed of your own movements.
- Perform basic stretches with sustained holds.
- Help classmates get back into the game.
Equipment for a class of 25

Teacher tip
Give an exaggerated slow-motion demo yourself: students copy it and laugh, which releases tension. If someone starts running, stop the game and restart even slower.
