Silent Ninja Cleanup
Students become ninjas who pick up and put away all the equipment from class without making a sound while the teacher listens with eyes closed. It builds movement control, independence, and responsibility for shared equipment.
How to play
- When the main activity ends, leave the equipment where it is and use cones to mark storage zones: balls, cones, hoops, and pinnies (30 sec).
- Make 5 ninja clans of 5 and assign each clan one type of equipment to bring to its zone (30 sec).
- Sit down, close your eyes, and say "Ninjas, go": ninjas tiptoe, pick up the equipment, and set it down without a sound (2 min).
- If you hear a clear noise (a bouncing ball, a falling cone), say "Noise," and everyone freezes for 5 seconds before continuing.
- When a clan finishes, its ninjas sit silently in a meditation pose next to their zone and wait for the rest (1 min).
- When you open your eyes, check how neat each zone is and praise the quietest, tidiest clans (1 min).
Rules
- Walk, never run or throw equipment.
- Each ninja carries only what they can safely hold with both hands.
- No talking during cleanup; use gestures to help each other.
- Heavy or large equipment is carried by two ninjas.
Variations
Easier
Keep your eyes open and give hints about where equipment is still left out.
Standard
Five clans, teacher's eyes closed, and a freeze on every noise.
Harder
Equipment must be perfectly organized (cones stacked by color, pinnies folded), and you allow only three noises total.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student can carry light items on their lap or be the ninja who sorts equipment in the storage zone.
- Hearing impairment: use a visual signal, such as raising a hoop, for the noise freeze.
- Fitness level or fatigue: a very tired student can be the seated lookout ninja who points out forgotten equipment.
Learning goals
- Control their bodies to move and handle objects silently.
- Take responsibility for collecting and caring for shared equipment.
- Work quietly with the group to finish a task.

Teacher tip
This turns cleanup into part of the cool-down. Keep the storage zones the same every lesson so it becomes a routine.
