Prehistoric Warm-up
Prehistoric warm-up: a story-based warm-up where students imitate prehistoric animals and actions — hunting, escaping a mammoth, making fire.
How to play
- Tell the story: we are a prehistoric tribe waking up in a cave.
- Wake up: bear stretches, yawns and joint mobility.
- Go hunting: crouched, sneaky steps and short sprints.
- "A mammoth!": everyone runs to the cave (marked zone); then "make fire" by rubbing hands fast and moving arms.
Rules
- Walk into the cave.
- Imitate animals without touching classmates.
Variations
Easier
Imitations only, no running.
Standard
Full story with two mammoth escapes.
Harder
A student is the mammoth and tags anyone not in the cave.
Adaptations
- Comprehension difficulties: picture cards for each part.
- Limited mobility: upper-body imitations.
Learning goals
- Mobilize the whole body through pretend play.
- Connect with social studies.
