Photo Safari Partner Movement Story
In pairs, one is a savanna animal moving as the teacher tells the story and the other is the photographer who follows; on "Click!", the animal freezes in a pose. It builds body expression, imitation and body control.
How to play
- Pairs spread across the blacktop: one is the animal and the other is the photographer with an imaginary camera. The teacher says the safari starts at sunrise (30 sec).
- Giraffes: walk very tall on tiptoes and slowly, and the photographer follows two steps behind (1 min).
- Gazelles: leap off one foot, changing direction, while the photographer jogs behind (1 min).
- Elephants: heavy steps with an arm as a trunk, then lions: a slow, stalking crawl on hands and feet (1 min).
- "Click!": the teacher calls it every 15–20 seconds and the animal freezes for 3 seconds; the photographer names the animal and the pair scores a point if it's right (1 min).
- Switch roles: repeat the safari with roles reversed (2 min).
- Photo album: each pair shows the class its best shot, a frozen pose (30 sec).
Rules
- The photographer doesn't touch the animal and stays two steps behind.
- On "Click!", hold the pose until the teacher says "Next."
- As gazelles, leap without bumping other pairs.
- Both partners play both roles.
Variations
Easier
The teacher always names the animal before "Click!" and there are no points.
Standard
Run the safari story with four animals and "Click!" photos.
Harder
The animal secretly picks which animal to be and the photographer has to guess it from the photo.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: acts out the animal with arms, trunk and facial expressions, or stays the photographer.
- Autism or shyness: may repeat the same animal and start as the photographer.
- Fitness level: as gazelles, students who need a lighter load walk with long strides.
Learning goals
- Express the traits of different animals with the body.
- Hold a still pose with control for a few seconds.
- Cooperate with a partner while trading roles.
Teacher tip
Take the first few photos yourself with exaggerated gestures so they get the idea. Encourage original poses for the final album.
