Party Confetti Goes Up and Down
At any party, children are confetti inside a bag that bursts up into the air, drifts down spinning very slowly and gets carried off by the wind. It warms up the body with jumps, spins and changes of level.
How to play
- We are confetti inside the bag: crouched down, close together but not touching (1 min).
- “Party!”: jump up with arms and legs spread as if you were tossed in the air (1 min).
- The confetti falls: sink to the floor spinning very slowly, each in your own way, until you’re lying down (1 min).
- Here comes the wind: jog gently all over the space and land on the body part the teacher calls, like a knee, your bottom or a hand (1 min).
- Sweep up the confetti: the teacher is the broom and everyone gathers in a pile in the middle for one last jump (1 min).
Rules
- Jump up, not on anyone.
- Fall slowly.
- With the wind, run into open spaces.
Variations
Easier
For 3-year-olds, just jump and fall slowly, repeating several times with the teacher.
Standard
For 4-year-olds, jump, fall, wind and land.
Harder
For 5-year-olds, land on two body parts at once, like a hand and a foot, and confetti falls by color: red spins, blue drops straight down.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the confetti jumps by raising arms from the chair and falls by lowering them with twirling wrists.
- Hearing loss: show “Party!” by throwing hands up in the air.
- Autism: count down to “Party!” and avoid loud shouting.
Learning goals
- Warm up with jumps and spins.
- Move from high to low levels with control.
- Enjoy moving in a festive mood.
Teacher tip
Use it to open any celebration session: birthdays, Carnival or the last day of school. The usual mistake is flopping down; say “slower than a feather” and model it.
