Individual Jump Rope
Individual jump rope warm-up that progresses from basic jumps to footwork and rhythm variations.
How to play
- Each student has a rope, at least 2 m apart.
- Block 1 (2 min): two-foot jumps with a bounce, at your own pace.
- Block 2 (2 min): alternate feet, as if running over the rope.
- Block 3 (2 min): free tricks (crossing arms, jumping backward, hopping); finish counting consecutive jumps in 30 seconds.
Rules
- Keep a safe distance between ropes.
- If the rope tangles, stop and restart calmly.
- Low jumps landing on the balls of the feet.
Variations
Easier
Swing the rope forward and step over it on the floor.
Standard
Three 2-minute blocks with 20-second rests.
Harder
Double-unders and linked trick sequences.
Adaptations
- Coordination difficulties: rope cut in half to mimic the swing without tangling.
- Asthma: moderate pace and rests after each block.
Learning goals
- Improve coordination and rhythm.
- Activate leg and ankle muscles.
