Floor Precision: Line and Hoop Jumps with a Stuck Landing
A parkour warm-up with two-foot jumps onto floor markings, no obstacles and no risk. It teaches the precision landing (balls of the feet, knees tracking, quiet) before anyone jumps onto objects.

How to play
- Easy jog between the markings plus ankle, knee and hip mobility (2 min).
- Demo of the precision landing: land on the balls of your feet, knees over toes, arms forward and hold still for 2 seconds (1 min).
- Free jumps line to line and hoop to hoop with feet together; freeze every landing for 2 seconds (3 min).
- In pairs: one picks a five-marker route and the other runs it; the observer calls whether each landing was quiet and stuck (3 min).
- Last challenge: the farthest marker each student can stick three times in a row (1 min).
Rules
- Always land on two feet with no extra steps.
- Don't jump toward a taken marker or cut across someone's route.
- Pick distances you can control; if you wobble, go shorter.
- Shoes tied and floor free of sand or water.
Variations
Easier
Markers half a meter apart and no freeze required.
Standard
Mixed distances and a 2-second freeze.
Harder
Land on a tape line with the balls of your feet and heels hanging off, without dropping the heels.
Adaptations
- Blind or low-vision students: straight routes with raised markings (taped-down rope) and a partner who claps the target.
- Recent ankle injury: walk the route with precise one-foot steps.
- Hesitant students: start with jumps the length of one step.
Learning goals
- Warm up ankles and knees with progressive impact.
- Lock in the precision landing technique.
- Match jump distance to your own control.
Equipment for a class of 25
- hoops: 15
- masking tape: 2
- cones: 10
Teacher tip
Lay the tape lines before class or use the court lines. The usual mistake is landing on the heels with knees caving in: cue 'knee points at your big toe.'
