Cooperative Game: Pass Without Touching the Floor
Cooperative challenge where each group crosses an area stepping only inside hoops that get passed forward like islands. Students work on cooperation, communication, balance and planning a shared strategy.
How to play
- Form 4 groups of 6 and give each group 4 hoops; mark a start line and a finish line about 40 feet apart (1 min).
- Explain the challenge: everyone must reach the other side without touching the ground outside the hoops, passing hoops from back to front (1 min).
- First open attempt: if anyone steps outside, the group moves back one hoop (2 min).
- One-minute huddle for each group to discuss what worked and choose a strategy (1 min).
- Second attempt with the chosen strategy; the challenge is won by every group that arrives together, not by the fastest (2 min).
- Quick debrief on how the group communicated and who made the decisions (1 min).
Rules
- No touching the ground outside the hoops; if it happens, the group moves back one hoop.
- Hoops are handed from person to person, never thrown.
- Safety: no pushing and no climbing on classmates' shoulders.
- Every group member must help move the hoops.
Variations
Easier
Each group gets 6 hoops and the distance is about 25 feet.
Standard
4 hoops per group over about 40 feet.
Harder
3 hoops per group, about 50 feet, and two students with eyes closed guided by the group.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student acts as guide and coordinates hoop passing from their wheelchair, or moves along a lane beside the group.
- Shy students: give them a specific job, such as passing the hoops or counting teammates.
- Balance issues or low fitness: bigger hoops and permission to hold a teammate's shoulder.
Learning goals
- Cooperate with a group to solve a movement challenge.
- Communicate and plan a shared strategy.
- Improve balance in tight spaces.
Equipment for a class of 25
- hoops: 16
Teacher tip
Don't let one student run the whole show: on the second attempt, ask someone else to lead. Keep the debrief short so students don't cool down during the warm-up.

4v1 Warm-up Rondo
4v1 rondo in an 8×8-meter square: four players keep possession with passes along the ground while one player in the middle tries to win the ball. Students work on passing, directional first touch and quick decision-making.
5v2 Technical Warm-up Rondo
A 5v2 rondo (keep-away) to warm up with the ball: five players around the outside of a square keep possession while two in the middle try to win it. It builds passing, first touch and positioning, with gradual activation.
Activation Ball Relays
Team relays in which each runner completes a 12-meter course dribbling with the hand, dribbling with the feet or passing, depending on the round. It warms students up with sport-specific ball skills and encourages healthy team competition.
Activation Circuit (4 Stations, 30 s)
Activation circuit with four 30-second stations: hoop jumps, squats, cone zigzag and plank. It gets the whole body ready for the main activity by combining strength, coordination and agility at moderate intensity.
Activation with Agility Ladder
Agility ladder warm-up using four footwork patterns of increasing difficulty. Students work on coordination, foot speed and lower-body activation, always putting accuracy ahead of speed.
Activation with Basic Plyometric Exercises
An activation with basic, progressive plyometric exercises: ankle hops, vertical jumps, lateral jumps and switch lunges. It activates lower-body power and teaches students to land in a controlled, safe way.
