Cone Path Memory Walk
In pairs, one student walks a secret path through flat disc cones set out in a grid, and the partner must memorize it and repeat it exactly. It's a low-intensity visual-spatial memory game that calms the group and builds attention and spatial orientation.
How to play
- Set up 5 grids of 4 x 4 flat disc cones about 3 feet apart; assign 2 or 3 pairs to each grid, waiting seated along one side (1 min).
- The first student makes up a 5-cone path, moving from one cone to a neighboring one (forward, sideways or diagonal), and walks it slowly, stepping beside each cone.
- The partner watches from a seated position, memorizes the path and then walks it; if the whole path is correct, the pair scores a point.
- Partners switch roles, then the next pair at the grid goes; waiting students watch quietly and try to memorize the path too (5 min).
- Add one cone to the path each round, up to 8 if the group can manage it.
- Finish: each student slowly walks their favorite path with eyes closed, holding hands with their partner, who guides them (2 min).
Rules
- Walk slowly; never run or jump between cones.
- Don't step on the cones, to avoid slipping.
- The watcher can't ask to see the path again.
- On the eyes-closed walk, the guide stays alongside and announces every step.
Variations
Easier
Paths have 3 or 4 cones and only move forward or sideways.
Standard
Paths start at 5 cones and grow by one each round.
Harder
The partner must walk the path in reverse, from the last cone back to the first.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: space the cones wider so a wheelchair fits, or have the student point out the path from outside the grid.
- Visual impairment: use high-contrast cones and describe the path out loud ("forward, right…").
- Memory difficulties: allow the student to watch the path twice before repeating it.
Learning goals
- Develop visual-spatial memory.
- Find your way in space using reference points.
- Move slowly and with control to calm down.

Teacher tip
Set up the grids during the main activity or ask two students to help so you don't lose time. Remind students that waiting is part of the game, since they memorize too.

Students travel to the Moon as astronauts, where everything moves in slow motion because of low gravity, then return to Earth feeling heavy.
Back Drawing with Partner
In pairs, one student slowly draws a shape, letter or number on a partner's back with a finger, and the partner guesses it before roles switch.
Back-to-Back Ball Pass Stretch
Sitting back to back in pairs, students pass a foam ball with trunk twists, overhead and between the legs, always slowly and with steady breathing.
