Closing Up the Construction Site
After the obstacle course, the builders close up the site in slow motion and in pairs: putting light equipment away, checking that the floor is clear and lying down like cement drying. It brings energy down while teaching safe cleanup.
How to play
- The teacher announces the site is closing: everyone walks around in slow motion with long, soft steps (1 min).
- In pairs, children slowly carry light equipment (hoops, ropes, cones, beanbags) back to its place, one item at a time; adults handle benches and thick mats (3 min).
- Final check: walk in a line around the site, looking at the floor so nothing is left to trip on (1 min).
- Lie on your back like freshly poured cement and slowly let it dry: first the feet go still, then the legs, tummy, arms and face (2 min).
- Breathe in and out very slowly three times and sit up like tired but happy builders (1 min).
Rules
- We clean up walking, never running.
- Grown-ups carry the heavy things.
- One item at a time, held tight.
- Dry cement doesn't move.
Variations
Easier
For 3-year-olds, they only collect beanbags and hoops and put them in a nearby basket.
Standard
For 4-year-olds, pairs put away the light equipment in its usual spot.
Harder
For 5-year-olds, each pair is in charge of one type of equipment and checks it's all there (five hoops, five cones).
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the child is basket keeper, receiving the equipment and saying when it's full.
- Autism: a photo of where each item goes and the same job every session.
- Visual impairment: the partner describes the route and they carry soft items like beanbags.
Learning goals
- Bring energy down at the end of the session.
- Learn to put equipment away safely.
- Work together to care for a shared space.
Equipment for a class of 25
- material del circuito
Teacher tip
Leave the heavy equipment for last, once the kids are lying down. Slow-motion cleanup is hard for them: model it yourself, very exaggerated. Use this cool-down after any obstacle course.
