The Little Raindrop's Trip to the Sea
A calm story where kids become a little raindrop that falls from a cloud, rolls down a mountain, travels down a river and rests floating in the sea. It builds relaxation, slow movement and listening skills.
How to play
- Play soft music and spread kids out, each by a mat. Say: "We're raindrops inside a cloud," and they curl into a ball standing up (30 sec).
- Say: "The cloud opens and we fall slowly." They sink very slowly until they're sitting on the mat (1 min).
- Say: "We roll down the mountain." They lie down and roll very slowly sideways, one roll over and one roll back (1.5 min).
- Say: "We reach the river and the water carries us." Lying on their backs, they move arms and legs gently like flowing water (1.5 min).
- Say: "We reach the sea and it rocks us." They lie still with hands on their tummies, feeling them rise and fall as they breathe (2 min).
- To finish, say: "The sun comes out and the raindrop wakes up." They stretch, sit up slowly and open their eyes.
Rules
- Each raindrop stays on its own mat.
- Roll slowly without bumping anyone.
- Listen to the teacher's voice without talking.
- Get up only when the sun comes out.
Variations
Easier
For 3-year-olds, skip the rolling and have the raindrop slide down from sitting to lying.
Standard
For 4-year-olds, do the whole trip: cloud, mountain, river and sea.
Harder
For 5-year-olds, at the end each raindrop shares one word about how the sea felt.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the child follows the story seated or lying without rolling, moving arms and head to your voice.
- Visual impairment: give a gentle tap on the shoulder to signal each new scene.
- Shy or restless kids: place them near you and let them be the cloud that blows the rain.
Learning goals
- Relax the body through slow movement and stillness.
- Listen to and act out a story with the body.
- Notice belly breathing.

Teacher tip
Tell the story with a voice that gets slower and softer; your voice sets the pace more than the words do. Dim the gym lights if you can.
