Roll-and-Reflect Giant Die
Seated in a circle, students roll a giant die to a classmate, who answers the question that matches the number rolled. It builds expressing feelings, recalling what was learned and taking turns to speak and listen.
How to play
- Everyone sits in a wide circle. Introduce the six questions: 1 What did you like best? 2 What was hard? 3 Who do you want to thank and why? 4 What did you learn? 5 Show with your body how you feel. 6 Wild card, pick any question (1 min).
- Roll the die across the floor to a student; never toss it through the air.
- The student who receives the die checks the number and answers in one sentence. Everyone else responds with a silent signal, like a thumbs-up or hands on heart.
- That student rolls the die to someone who hasn't spoken yet, then crosses their arms to show they've had a turn.
- Keep going for 10 to 12 turns, about 5 minutes. If a question comes up again, the answer must be different from earlier ones.
- Finish with question 5 for everyone at once: each student shows with a pose how they're leaving class and holds it for 5 seconds.
Rules
- The die always rolls on the floor; no throwing.
- Only the person with the die talks; everyone else listens.
- You may say "pass" once and the die rolls on.
- Respect every answer; no laughing.
Variations
Easier
Use a die with only feelings faces, and the student copies the face that comes up.
Standard
Six reflection and gratitude questions over 10 to 12 turns.
Harder
Students must connect their answer to a specific rule or skill from today's lesson.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: hand the die to the student, who gently pushes it on to the next person.
- Shyness or autism: the student can answer with a gesture or use the wild card, and gets a heads-up before the die comes to them.
- Fitness/level: with older students, swap in questions about strategy and teamwork.
Learning goals
- Express feelings from class with words or gestures.
- Recall what they learned and the highlights of the lesson.
- Take turns speaking and listen to classmates.

Teacher tip
Tape the questions with picture cues onto the die so younger students don't have to remember them. Spread the turns around so the same students don't always talk.
