Roll-a-Flow Team Yoga Sequence
In teams of five, students roll a giant die three times to get three poses from a chart, then design a slow sequence with transitions and breathing and teach it to the class. It builds planning, creativity, and a smooth cool-down.
How to play
- Groups of five with yoga mats; a chart on the wall lists six numbered poses (1 mountain, 2 tree, 3 cat-cow, 4 warrior, 5 cobra, 6 child's pose) (1 min).
- Each team rolls the die three times, taking turns, and writes the three poses on their card; reroll any repeated number (1.5 min).
- The team decides the order and how to move between poses without jumping, and gives the sequence a name (2.5 min).
- They practice the sequence twice together, three breaths per pose, counting quietly (2 min).
- Each team leads its sequence for the rest of the class once while everyone else follows silently (2 min).
- Everyone finishes lying in child's pose or on their back, breathing calmly (1 min).
Rules
- Transitions are slow, with no jumping or rolling.
- Everyone on the team gives an opinion before deciding the order.
- Roll the die along the floor, never toss it in the air.
- The leader speaks softly and leaves time to breathe.
Variations
Easier
Roll twice and link only two poses.
Standard
Roll three times and build a three-pose sequence with transitions.
Harder
Roll four times and add a partner pose the team invents.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the chart includes a seated version of each pose, and the student can lead the sequence.
- Shyness: the student may lead without speaking and signal changes with a gesture.
- Higher level: the student designs smooth transitions between standing and floor poses.
Learning goals
- Plan a short pose sequence as a team.
- Create smooth transitions between yoga poses.
- Lead and follow a cool-down sequence.
Equipment for a class of 25
- giant die: 1
- yoga mats: 25
- cards: 5
Teacher tip
Give a halfway warning during design time so it doesn't drag. The calmest sequences usually start standing and end on the floor; suggest it if teams get stuck.
