Pretend Bubble Bath Self-Massage
Each child gives themselves a pretend shower massage: soaping up each body part, rinsing with finger raindrops and drying off with an imaginary towel. It builds body awareness, relaxation and healthy hygiene habits.
How to play
- Have kids stand spread out. Say: "We played so hard we're sweaty. Shower time!" Turn on a pretend faucet (20 sec).
- Say: "Squirt some soap in your hands," and rub palms together. Slowly soap up head, face, neck and shoulders with gentle circles (1 min).
- Keep going with arms, tummy, legs and feet, naming each part out loud as you rub it (1 min).
- Say: "Here comes the water." Use fingertips to tap gently all over, head to toes, like rain (40 sec).
- Say: "Turn off the water and grab your towel." Slide open hands slowly over each part, pressing a little (40 sec).
- Finish with a self-hug and one slow breath: "We're so clean and calm!"
Rules
- Massage only your own body.
- Rub slowly and gently; no slapping.
- Stay in your own spot.
- Listen for which body part comes next.
Variations
Easier
For 3-year-olds, name just four big parts: head, tummy, arms and legs.
Standard
For 4-year-olds, go through the whole body from top to bottom following the teacher.
Harder
For 5-year-olds, add small parts like elbows, knees, ankles and ears, and let a child lead part of the shower.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: do it seated; if the child can't reach their feet, they soap what they can reach or a friend helps.
- Visual impairment: name each part and gently tap the child's shoulder to signal each change.
- Skill level: confident kids lead the shower for the group; kids who get lost copy you up close.
Learning goals
- Recognize and name body parts.
- Relax through a gentle self-massage.
- Connect the end of physical activity with hygiene.
Teacher tip
Exaggerate the moves and make it fun with soft water sounds. It's a perfect lead-in to real handwashing on the way back to class.
