Best Moment Freeze Frame
In groups of five, students pick the best moment of today's lesson and recreate it as a frozen picture that the class guesses. It builds recall of the lesson, group decision-making and body control while holding still.
How to play
- Make groups of five. Each group meets in a corner and has 2 minutes to agree on the best moment of today's class.
- Each group creates a freeze frame: every member holds a still pose that shows that moment, like the winning goal, the team hug at the end or a funny fall.
- The rest of the class sits facing the performing group. On "three, two, one, freeze!" the group holds still for 10 seconds while breathing slowly.
- The audience raises hands to guess the moment. Once someone gets it, the group relaxes.
- Gently tap the shoulder of one person in the picture; they say out loud what their character is thinking or feeling at that moment.
- Every group takes a turn, about 1 minute each. To finish, the whole class makes one big freeze frame for 10 seconds in silence.
Rules
- Every group member must be in the picture.
- Poses must be steady and safe: no climbing on anyone.
- Nobody talks or moves during the freeze.
- The audience waits until the freeze ends to guess.
Variations
Easier
Assign each group the moment they will show.
Standard
Each group picks its best moment and holds it for 10 seconds.
Harder
Each group creates three frames in a row, before, during and after the moment, with slow-motion transitions.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student takes the center of the picture with an arm or facial pose, and the group builds around them.
- Visual impairment: a buddy quietly describes the other groups' pictures.
- Shyness or autism: the student can choose a background role and skip speaking when tapped.
Learning goals
- Recall and choose, as a group, a meaningful moment from class.
- Show a scene with their body while holding still and in control.
- Reach agreement by listening to everyone's ideas.
Teacher tip
If a group can't decide, have them vote by show of hands between two ideas. Remember the goal is to calm down, so the freeze is held with slow breathing.
