We Build the Concert Stage
In pairs and small groups, children carry the equipment to build a stage from a drawing, put on a short bucket-drum concert, and then take it all down. It builds cooperative carrying and the shared goal of finishing a project.
How to play
- Look at the stage drawing and figure out what we need to carry and where it goes (2 min).
- Carry the equipment in pairs: a bucket between two, hoops rolling, the mat with four children (4 min).
- Set everything up like the drawing and check it together like builders (2 min).
- Concert: groups take turns on the stage (the mat on the floor), play the bucket drums and take a bow (4 min).
- Take it all down and carry each thing back in pairs (3 min).
Rules
- Heavy things get carried together.
- Before we walk, we say "one, two, three" and lift together.
- One group on stage at a time; everyone else is the audience.
Variations
Easier
Age 3: a simple stage (one mat and four buckets), carrying light things in pairs with the teacher.
Standard
Age 4: the full stage from the drawing.
Harder
Age 5: they draw their own stage on big paper and build it from their plan.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: carry light items on their lap (hoops, cones) and be the one who checks everything matches the drawing.
- Autism: one fixed, concrete job (carrying the cones) and a heads-up before the louder concert part.
- Less strength: always carry in fours and with light items.
Learning goals
- Carry objects safely and cooperatively.
- Reach a shared goal by following a plan.
- Enjoy performing and being the audience.
Equipment for a class of 25

- mats: 2
- hoops: 8
- cones: 6

Teacher tip
Show how to lift from the floor: bend the knees, keep the back straight. The mat is always carried by four children with an adult beside them.
