Water Sponge Relay
Teams carry water in sponges from a full bucket to an empty one at the far end, trying to move as much water as possible. Ideal for hot days outdoors, it develops speed, quick reactions and teamwork.
How to play
- Set up 4–5 lanes 10 m long with a full bucket at the start and an empty bucket at the end; make teams of 5 (prep and 1 min).
- On the whistle, the first player soaks the sponge, runs or walks to the empty bucket and squeezes it out (2 min of practice).
- The player runs back and hands the sponge to the next teammate (8 min of relay).
- After 4 minutes, stop and compare the water level in each team's bucket; play a second round with a new rule (3 min).
- Finish by pouring the remaining water on plants or the playground and wringing out the sponges (1 min).
Rules
- No throwing sponges, especially at faces.
- Be careful on wet ground: walk near the buckets.
- Only one teammate in the lane at a time.
- Hand off the sponge, don't throw it.
Variations
Easier
Use a shorter distance and larger sponges.
Standard
Run a 10 m lane with one sponge per team.
Harder
Add obstacles to step over or carry the sponge above the head.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility or wheelchair users: shorten the lane or let the student squeeze the sponge at the bucket while a teammate runs.
- Students sensitive to getting wet: give them the role of judge or water-level marker.
- Fitness level: allow walking for any player.
Learning goals
- Move quickly and safely while carrying an object.
- Cooperate with teammates in a relay.
- Enjoy physical activity outdoors in hot weather.
Equipment for a class of 25
- sponges: 5
- buckets: 10
Teacher tip
Tell families ahead of time so students bring a change of clothes. Mark a line on each bucket to compare results quickly.

Accuracy Circuit with Cloth Targets
Accuracy stations with cloth targets on the floor and on the wall, where students toss bean bags and score points by ring. They work on throwing accuracy and matching force to distance.
Adapted Beach Handball
An adapted beach handball game with a soft ball: no dribbling, three steps with the ball, and double points for spectacular goals such as jump or spin shots. It develops throwing, passing and team play in a fun, safe way.
Adapted Volleyball
A simplified volleyball game with a soft foam ball where students may catch and toss the ball before learning to hit it, keeping rallies going over the net. It develops striking, teamwork, and court positioning without the fear of a hard ball.
Aerobics Stations
Students rotate through five aerobics stations to upbeat music, doing step-ups, jumping jacks, high knees, skipping and dance moves. The activity builds cardiovascular endurance and coordination at each student's own intensity.
Agility Ladder Circuit
Small groups rotate through agility ladders laid on the blacktop, practicing footwork patterns from one foot per square to lateral and in-out steps. It develops quick feet, rhythm, coordination and agility.
Animal Kingdom Circuit
Each station represents an animal, and students move like it: frog jumps, bear walks, crab walks and kangaroo hops. The circuit works the whole body, builds strength and coordination, and encourages creativity.
