Two on This Foot, Two on That
On paths of circles drawn on the ground, children hop forward following patterns: two hops on the sticker foot, two on the other, all the way to the end. It works on alternating one-foot hops, laterality and remembering a pattern.

How to play
- Put a sticker on one shoe and do little hops in place on that foot, then on the other (2 min).
- Along the circle path: two hops on the sticker foot, two on the other, saying it out loud (3 min).
- New patterns the teacher shows with foot drawings at the start of the path: one and one, three and three (3 min).
- Each pair makes up a pattern and teaches it to another pair (2 min).
- Walk the path backward to loosen up our legs (2 min).
Rules
- I say out loud which foot I'm hopping on.
- If both feet touch down, I take a breath and continue the pattern.
- I wait until the child ahead has left the path.
Variations
Easier
For 4-year-olds, two-and-two patterns with a hand on the wall or on a buddy.
Standard
For 5-year-olds, two-and-two patterns without support.
Harder
For confident 5-year-olds, three-and-three or one-two-one patterns.
Adaptations
- Less balance: a buddy walks alongside offering a hand.
- Limited mobility: do the pattern by raising hands (right twice, left twice) while moving forward.
- Hearing loss: show the patterns on cards with colored footprints.
Learning goals
- Hop on one foot, alternating feet.
- Remember and repeat a pattern.
- Know which foot they are using.
Equipment for a class of 25
- chalk
- large stickers: 25
Teacher tip
Draw three or four paths with circles one small hop apart, no more. Hopping is tiring: follow each turn with a walk back.
