Trio Acrosport
Groups of three build balance figures with a base, a top and a spotter, then combine them into a short routine. Students develop balance, strength, body control, shared responsibility and safety awareness.
How to play
- Review the partner acrobatics safety rules and assign trios of similar size to each mat (3 min).
- Explain the roles: the base supports, the top balances and the spotter stays close with hands ready at the top's hips or waist (2 min).
- Trios build 3 figures from picture cards, holding each for 3–5 seconds (6 min).
- Rotate roles every 2 figures so everyone is base, top and spotter at least once (4 min).
- Each trio links 3 figures into a routine with a start pose, transitions and a final pose (5 min).
- Trios perform for another trio, who give one strength and one tip (2 min).
Rules
- Every figure is built on mats and has a spotter watching.
- Weight goes only on shoulders and hips, never on the lower back or neck.
- Dismount in reverse order and announce each step.
- If anyone says 'stop', the figure comes down slowly right away.
Variations
Easier
Build simple trio figures where two bases share the top's weight and the top keeps one foot on the floor.
Standard
Create a three-figure routine with planned transitions.
Harder
Perform the routine to music and add a group pose combining two trios.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student can be a seated base in suitable figures, the main spotter for counting, or the routine director.
- Shy or contact-sensitive students: allow them to choose their trio and start in the spotter role.
- Strength level: match bases and tops by size and strength, and offer lower figures for students who need them.
Learning goals
- Build stable group balances using safe technique.
- Take responsibility for a role in the group, including spotting.
- Design and perform a short balance routine.
Equipment for a class of 25
- mats: 9
Teacher tip
Do not allow figures higher than shoulder height. Walk the room and check spotter positions often, as they tend to step back once a figure looks steady.

More main activities for Elementary
Accuracy Circuit with Cloth Targets
Accuracy stations with cloth targets on the floor and on the wall, where students toss bean bags and score points by ring. They work on throwing accuracy and matching force to distance.
Adapted Beach Handball
An adapted beach handball game with a soft ball: no dribbling, three steps with the ball, and double points for spectacular goals such as jump or spin shots. It develops throwing, passing and team play in a fun, safe way.
Adapted Volleyball
A simplified volleyball game with a soft foam ball where students may catch and toss the ball before learning to hit it, keeping rallies going over the net. It develops striking, teamwork, and court positioning without the fear of a hard ball.
Aerobics Stations
Students rotate through five aerobics stations to upbeat music, doing step-ups, jumping jacks, high knees, skipping and dance moves. The activity builds cardiovascular endurance and coordination at each student's own intensity.
Agility Ladder Circuit
Small groups rotate through agility ladders laid on the blacktop, practicing footwork patterns from one foot per square to lateral and in-out steps. It develops quick feet, rhythm, coordination and agility.
Animal Kingdom Circuit
Each station represents an animal, and students move like it: frog jumps, bear walks, crab walks and kangaroo hops. The circuit works the whole body, builds strength and coordination, and encourages creativity.
